This HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course applies to teachers, educators and child care support staff who are required to respond to a first aid emergencies, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies, as they apply to infants, children and adults.
This course is approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011), regulation 136(1, 2, 3). It is a requirement of the NT WorkSafe - First Aid Code of Practice to renew your first aid qualification every three years and CPR (HLTAID001) annually, this HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support training, stand alone training for these units can be found at HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support, additional information on accredited training can be found at Training.gov.au (replaces the NTIS).
Recognition Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer (CT) and National Recognition
The course will be pre-empted by any learning achieved through formal education and training (credit transfer) and learning achieved outside the formal education and training system (RPL), or recognition of AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by training organisations registered in any Australian jurisdiction as described in the Student Handbook.
Training and assessment arrangements:
This accredited course is delivered in three (3) formats, all of which provide participants with the knowledge and skills to confidently recognise and respond to an emergency situation requiring first aid.
- One Day course with on-line learning completed prior to the one-day practical workshop.
- Two Day course (one full + one 1/2 day) to support ESL participants in remote areas
- Three day course (6hrs each day over 3 days) specifically designed for delivery in remote areas
The one day course is conducted in English and applicants must possess functional written and spoken English skills. Practical training will be delivered face to face, either on site or at our training rooms. The practical training is delivered in one face to face session of eight (8) hours, at a time to suit the facility or the majority of the participants.
The pre-course work taking approx six (6) hours includes an on-line "workbook" (including video and written material) can be progressed in one or multiple logon/logoff sessions, providing a self paced flexible method of learning the theory of First Aid in the comfort of one's own home, at work, or wherever an internet connection is available. You will also complete a workplace Asthma/Anaphylaxis checklist, as well as an Asthma and Anaphylaxis risk assessment prior to the practicum, which are best completed with your workplace (or based on the scenario's provided).
Our First Aid educator observes the participants application of skills and knowledge throughout the face to face practical session, during simulated emergency scenarios, contextualised to the candidate's workplace/community settings, and other skill stations, throughout the one-day face to face session. CPR assessment requires candidates to perform at least two (2) minutes of single rescuer uninterrupted CPR on both an adult + child resuscitation manikin placed on the floor as well at least two (2) minutes of single rescuer uninterrupted CPR on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
The two day course is designed to support ESL participants, with theory assessments delivered verbally to participants on prior arrangement.
The three day course is specifically designed for delivery in remote locations where workplace or other time restrictions preclude full day attendance, with theory assessments delivered verbally to participants on prior arrangement.
Students under 14 years of age must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.
Fees are payable though the website or at our office by credit card (Visa/MC), cash or purchase order, and may be tax deductible to eligible students. Should the NT Government and industry bodies make Scholarships available, we will assist you to apply.
A 'No Refunds Policy' applies to all online learning courses once you have been issued with your user name and passwords, whether you have accessed the system or not.
Pre-payment secures your enrolment for this course, and all fees must be paid before a Statement of Attainment is issued.

Participants receive a hard copy Emergency First Aid reference book with over 250 pages of information to assist you in maintaining your knowledge over time, up to advanced level's of First Aid. LLN support can be provided to participants on request, which includes additional face to face time with the trainer/assessor

- Heart Conditions
- Environmental Exposure (hot and cold)
- Poisons, Bites and Stings
- Anaphylaxis & Asthma (use of Epi-Pen, Anapen and Asthma medication systems)
- use of an Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- and special needs of remote area practice.
