Course information

The National Foundation Skills Strategy for Adults reports that 40 per cent of employed Australians do not have the foundation skills needed to meet the complex demands of work and life in a modern economy.  This qualification is designed for individuals who require significant foundation skills support to access a vocational learning pathway. 

This learning program is designed to build foundation skills during the delivery of vocational skill training, supporting individuals to build skills that support:

  • a prevocational pathway to employment and vocational training
  • reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 1
  • entry level digital technology and employability skills.

This foundation skills learning program is designed to work in combination with other training packages, this flexibility means we can work with you to develop and deliver a flexible contextualised training program to address individual and industry requirements.

The duration of the learning program varies depending on the vocational pathway and elective units selected. 

Training and assessment arrangements:

This qualifications can be achieved by a variety of pathways and delivery methods, either on-the-job or through a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training and recognition processes.

This accredited course is delivered in English (unless otherwise arranged), conducted either on site or at our training rooms, at a time to suit the facility or the majority of the participants.

Our educator observes the participants application of skills and knowledge throughout the face to face practical sessions, during simulated or actual workplace sessions, contextualised to the candidate's workplace/community settings, and other skill stations.  Training and assessment activities require candidates to perform physical tasks to prove competence, the course modality is discussed and agreed by the learner, workplace and RTO prior to enrolment.

Learners are supported as they progress thier learning program during workplace and face to face activities as well as on-line elearning.  The on-line work can be progressed in one or multiple logon/logoff sessions, providing a self paced flexible method of learning in the comfort of one's own home, at work, or wherever an internet connection is available.

This learning program is currently being delivered as VET in Schools (VETiS) with remote context.

Students under 14 years of age must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.

Qualification Options

The qualifications include elective units that should be selected according to the learning and pathway needs of the learner.  The choice of elective units is generally negotiated between the learner and/or employer/school (where applicable), and the RTO conducting the training program.

Learners benefit from building foundation skills in a context that is relevant and meaningful for them.  It is recommended that elective units are used to provide a focus for the qualification that is relevant to the vocational and learning goals of the learner.

Vocational elective units can be used to:

  • inspire the vocational contextualisation of core units, making them more meaningful and relevant for learners
  • create pathways for learners into further training in specific vocational areas

 

Text Books & Learning support

All participants receive access to our on-line learning and assessment system which is included in the course fee, or may choose a workbook course folder at additional cost, variable depending on the selection of elective units.  Additional support can be provided to participants on request, ie: additional face to face time with the trainer/assessor to complete the theory assessments verbally.

Course Structure

To achieve a Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways a total of ELEVEN (11) units of competency must be completed. This comprises of SEVEN (7) core units of competency and FOUR (4) elective units of competency.
