Course Information

This course applies to a wide range of settings where emergencies involving asthma attacks may occur.  This course is approved by ACECQA and relevant for people working in childcare, education, aged and community care, tourism, hospitality and other environments, is suitable for the general public, students and corporate clients delivered in town or at remote locations, and can be tailored to suit your specific requirements.  This course is conducted under the auspices and in partnership with APL Group Pty Ltd RTO 3586 t/as Australian First Aid, and addresses the training and assessment requirements of the following unit of competence:

  • VU20011 Manage Asthma Emergencies

Recognition Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer (CT) and National Recognition

The course will be pre-empted by any learning achieved through formal education and training (credit transfer) and learning achieved outside the formal education and training system (RPL), or recognition of AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by training organisations registered in any Australian jurisdiction as described in the Student Handbook.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisite units for this course, though participants should have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to level 2 of the National Reporting System.  An example of a NRS level 2 activity is requesting appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of an emergency asthma attack incident.

Training and assessment arrangements:

This accredited course is delivered in a three (3) hour session or a two (2) hour refresher session, and provides successful participants with the skills and knowledge to be able to handle asthma emergency situations in the workplace.

The course is conducted in English with training delivered face to face, either on site or at our training rooms, at a time to suit the facility or the majority of the participants.The course includes audio visual and written materials, and industry and individual participants are encouraged to include policies, procedures and documentation from their workplace, to better contextualise their learning.

Our educator assesses the participants application of skills and knowledge throughout the face to face session, through scenario, skill stations and a final written assessment undertaken at the end of the session.

The course is delivered and assessed in a format supportive of the needs of ESL participants, and is specifically designed for delivery in remote locations where workplace or other time restrictions preclude full day attendance.Theory assessments able to be delivered verbally to participants on prior arrangement.

Students under 14 years of age must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.

The course is delivered by local, qualified industry professionals, who recognise the needs of the individuals and embrace the principles of cultural safety in their teaching.

Course fee:

Fees are payable though the website, at our Offices and may be tax deductible to eligible students.  All fees must be paid before a Certificate or Statement of Attainment is issued.  Pre-payment secures your enrolment for this course.

  • $85 per participant (min 5 participants) or $65 clustered with our First Aid course
  • Corporate class bookings (POA) - max 12 per class with split classes up to 25 participants
  • Classes at our training room or at your workplace, on schedule or afterhours
  • Class size is limited to a max of 12 participants - unless otherwise arranged

Training upgrade options:

To assist industry meet compliance with the Education and Childcare Services National Regulations, participants who have undertaken our First Aid training have also upgraded to the 22099VIC - Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis and 22024VIC - Course in Emergency Management of Asthma in the Workplace nationally accredited training, for only $65 each (clustered course price), both courses are approved by ACECQA

 

Text Books

All participants must complete pre-reading and return completed theory assessment materials, available from our office and taking approx one (1) hour, prior to the course.

What to bring:

Appropriate clothing for bending and floor work, photo ID, and your completed workbook and/or pre-reading.

Course subjects:

A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants which is valid for 3 years.

The course includes one (1) competency unit and provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle asthma emergency situations in the workplace. It includes:

• Background knowledge of the causes, symptoms and effects of asthma
• Emergency treatment of asthma
• Risk minimisation and management strategies for asthma emergencies
