NT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care training project
The NTACT project is a partnership between with the NT Department of Health and Families (NTDHF) and the Department of Health and Ageing has funded regional based Training Organisations to provide training through the NT Aged Care Training (NTACT) Project in aged care in communities.
Training was delivered by REDPATH Education staff with the aim to develop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care workforce in the aged care sector in remote areas by:
- developing the NT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care workforce through the provision of culturally appropriate training;
- ensuring quality aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through appropriate staffing and training; and
- building capacity and sustainability in the aged care training workforce in the NT
The Project which commenced in February 2009 worked towards building capacity and sustainability within the aged care workforce through:
- conducting skills audits for all staff;
- determining staff training needs; and
- delivering training to meet these needs.
Employing a collaborative approach, REDPATH worked with key stakeholders to deliver training in communities in the NT & WA, including:
