This course is conducted under the auspices of Allens Training Pty Ltd - RTO 90909who will be responsible for the quality and direction of all accredited training and assessment conducted by Redpath Education., as well as the issuing of Statements of Attainment for the units of competency on Allen's scope.

Course Information

This course covers the skills and knowledge for preparing for emergency situations, identifying and assessing an emergency, safely confining emergencies, using initial response equipment and reporting on the facility's emergency response.

If you are an occupant of a facility who is required to have first attack firefighting skills for small emergencies, such as small fires that can be controlled using a fire extinguisher; chemical spills that can be controlled using facility personal protective clothing and equipment and a spill kit; or a vehicle accident where there is no significant injury or damage, then this course is a must for you.   Applicable to employees in the workplace within all industries and in all contexts. 

The course has been developed to cover a broad range of emergencies and facilities as considered in Australian Standard 3745 and Australian Standard 4083.

Entry requirements:

Participants must have the physical capacity to complete all practical demonstrations for the course, including wearing suitable identification, being able to safely confine emergencies and use initial response equipment.  Participants will also need oral and written communication skills to read and follow the instruction of a workplace emergency plan, interpret extinguisher icons and other signage, make an accurate verbal report to emergency services and complete a written incident report.

Training and assessment arrangements:

This accredited course is delivered in one three (3) hour face to face session, this is a minimum timeframe, duration may extend to ensure learners completion.

The course is conducted in English with training delivered face to face, either on site or at our training rooms, at a time to suit the facility or the majority of the participants.  The course includes audio visual and written materials, and industry and individual participants are encouraged to include policies, procedures and documentation from their workplace, to better contextualise the learning.

  1. 3hr course with on-line learning completed prior to the one-day practical workshop.  This delivery method is best suited to students who are confident in learning online and have basic computer skills. 
  2. Other course formats we deliver courses in various formats to meet the needs of workplaces and the participants, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Includes an on-line learning and knowledge assessment (including video and written material) to be completed prior to the face to face session.  The on-line work can be progressed in one or multiple logon/logoff sessions, providing a self paced flexible method of learning the theory of Leading an ECO in the comfort of one's own home, at work, or wherever an internet connection is available. It is essential that you can use a reliable computer and have internet access.

During the course we will work with you on your in-class work, where you will be assessed applying your knowledge and skills, during various realistic emergency scenario’s performed both inside and outside the building.

Participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of the performance tasks, ie; lead a team to develop a response plan as specified in your workplace emergency procedures or as developed by you in class.  You will perform your role as a member of the Emergency Control Organisation and manage a small chemical spill and put out a small paper/wood fire using an AB(e) extinguisher during simulated emergencies (other extinguishing mediums may be used), in the outside environment. (bring a hat and any other relevant workplace PPE).

After the Emergency scenario's you will complete a Facility Emergency plan and a Emergency Evacuation incident and debrief form to the appropriate standard.  You will have an opportunity to discuss answers and correct your answers during revision and reflection on performance.

We encourage you to bring your stories into the training session, to discuss your roles and responsibilities, overview your policies and procedures and review Emergency processes from your workplace.

  1. Open your Course email;
    • Complete the online Safety Checklist
    • Follow your emailed log-in link, create your password, then log-in and verify your enrolment info.
  2. Complete your ALLENS online knowledge learning & assessment (allow approx.  .5-1hrs to complete), a modern web browser is required. 

These must be completed and marked as satisfactory at least two (2) days prior to the course.

  1. Develop and review emergency plans.
  2. Use of a fire blanket and extinguisher(s) during simulated Emergency scenarios. 
  3. Complete incident & debrief report, and equipment fault log

You will have opportunities to discuss and reflect on your performance during the course, to support you to provide first aid appropriately.

Students under 14 years of age must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.

Educators and learning support:

Training is conducted in English and participants should possess functional written and spoken English skills.  The course is delivered by local, Industry experts and qualified Tutors, who hold a current Police Clearance, understand the context of practice and embrace the principles of cultural safety in their teaching.

The course may be delivered with the knowledge assessment completed in class and assessed in a format supportive of the needs of ESL participants, and delivered in remote locations where workplace or other time restrictions preclude a single session attendance.  If requiring a full face to face session, please discuss this with our office prior to booking.  Those not completing the on-line pre-course assessment, will be completing a hardcopy assessment in class, allow additional 2hrs to complete.

All participants receive a hard copy reference book to assist you in maintaining your knowledge over time.  LLN support can be provided to participants on request, which includes additional face to face time with the trainer/assessor.
